NEW WESTMINSTER, March 8.---Benjamin Stone Kennedy 72, pioneer B.C. publisher and printer, died Tuesday at his home at Strawberry Hill, Delta.
Born at Fort Langley, he was eldest son (Correction: he was the youngest son) of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Kennedy, who came to the lower mainland in 1859. His mother was the first white woman to settle in Royal City.
Mr. Kennedy learned the printing business during the time three of his older brothers operated the British Columbian between 1897 (Correction: 1888) and 1900. He later operated several publications in the Fraser Valley.
Following a period of retirement two years ago he established the Pensioner, a monthly publication devoted to the interests of old-age pensioners of B.C.
Mr. Kennedy is survived by his wife; seven sons, Blair, Stuart, Brian, Ralph, all of Vancouver. Benjamin and George at home and Lieut. Wilfred Kennedy overseas; one daughter, Miss. Louise Kennedy, at home; sister, Mrs. A. Forton, Port Coquitlam, and two brothers, Robert, Pitt Meadows, and John, Vernon.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Bowell & Son's Chapel.    Uncle to Robert P. Kennedy.

Benjamin Stone Kennedy Jr.                   Jun. 01, 1904 - Apr. 30, 1968     Note:  "Ben Kennedy Jr." was the last person off the newly constructed Patullo Bridge in New Westminster/Surrey, BC, Canada.    His 1st. cousin Robert Pemberton Kennedy and  Margaret his wife to be were one of the first to walk across the bridge.  (November 15, 1937).  Tolls were removed February 12, 1952.
As senior Superintendent of Construction, it fell heir to him to clear the deck for the blue ribbon cutting ceremony.
He also removed the flag of Canada at the time (1936) referred to as the "Ensign".
That flag is in the possession of John Gerald Lashley Haggman (or his heir) - (post 2005).      (Ref. Haggman Family book)

Note:  For those interested, you will find in the Government of Canada Archives web pages, a series of "books of remembrance" containing names of Canadian Military personnel who died in active duty, the name Wilfrid Haggman Kennedy.  Note the spelling of his first name. It is correct. He was named after Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Prime Minister of Canada 1896 - 1911.
